Comments: Can you please post a screenshot of the error message you are getting? Windows doesn't block VeraCrypt bootloader when Secure Boot is disabled, so this error message is coming from something else on your machine that enforces some kind of security policy. Hopefully, the screenshot will help us identify where it comes from. If your machine is a corporate one, you should contact the IT to see how to enable VeraCrypt bootloader support in their policy. You can also look for any security software on your machine that may protect against boot loader changes and see if there is an option to allow VeraCrypt bootloader.

New Post: batch file hangs when running veracrypt

ood day everyone. im using veracrypt to mount and encrypt 2 external hard drives that are swapped weekly. these drives are just used for simple off site backup of certain data. im trying to get veracrypt to auto mount the drives run the backup then dismount the drives but the batch seems to stall as soon as veracrypt is loaded.
this is the basics of the file
@echo off
veracrypt /a

if not exist z: goto nodrives
echo External Backup log > d:\externalbackup.txt
start externalbackup.bat

veracrypt /d
veracrypt /quit

:nodrives
echo no external drives available %date% %time% >> d:\externalbackup.txt

:end

exit

can someone give me some advise on how to make this work. ps. this is running on a win2k3 server. thanks

I noticed that I am forgetting to wipe passwords cache too often. Please add some options in preferences for automatic wipeing on timeout (5-10 minutes), on logoff, sleep, hibernation, etc. The similar set of options already exists for auto dismount of volumes but not for this.

New Post: Dual Boot encryption

I am attempting to encrypt my dual-boot laptop; however, I am having some difficulty when it comes to encrypting the windows partition with Veracrypt. Currently I have my Linux partitions (home, root, and swap) all successfully encrypted with Luks. However, when I attempt to do a system partition encryption on Windows, I lose the ability to access Grub.

What happens is it boots to the Veracrypt loader, but if I escape past that, it detects my SDA1 which is my computer's system recovery partition and boots straight into that, not detecting Grub. As far as I can tell, if I could just get it to detect Grub next in the bootload sequence, it would work perfectly as nothing is overwritten, and as soon as I decrypt the system partition Grub returns.

Anyone have any suggestions on accomplishing this?

My drive is partitioned as below:
/sda1 - recovery partition
/sda2 - Windows OS
/sda3 Extended partition
/sda5 Grub Bootloader
/sda6 Root
/sda7 swap
/sda8 home

Dear Idrassi,

This is a follow-up about the following thread regarding the Evil Maid message when setting up a Hidden Operating System. The 1s post of this old thread in link below has all the details needed for this follow-up thread. I've recently tried the whole thing again, first on my system and a second time on my cousin's brand new computer, and a third time on my friend's old computer with VC1.17 and VC1.18, and in all occasions, the Evil Maid message came up using the steps as described in post 1 in this old thread.

https://veracrypt.codeplex.com/discussions/653605

It seems that the Evil Maid false positive is not a coincident and perhaps there is something incorrect/inaccurate about its detection mechanism. If you see the old thread above (in post 17 from top, use name "Bestgps)) there was another user reporting about the same issue, and recently in July there was 2 other users reporting the Evil Maid message in this following thread (in posts 1 and 3 by users "crus" and "testoslav").

https://veracrypt.codeplex.com/discussions/655052

If possible, would you please try creating the hidden OS with a fresh Wins 7 installation to see if the Evil Maid message comes up? I spent so much time on this and as illustrated in this thread it seems that it merits an investigation as to whether a fix to the Evil Maid detection mechanism is need. THANKS a lot if you can take a closer look on your side.

The following is what I did in my recent intallation of VC1.17 and VC1.18 on 3 different computers. NOTE THAT in every attempt of creating the Hiddern OS, I used Windows 7 64 bit (official licenced copy) and did not even attempt a connection to the internet for once for Windows updates. I haven't installed any 3rd party softwares, not Antivirus programs and not even the drivers that come with the orignal motherboard's CD. So, it's just a FRESH installation of Windows 7 alone, then an installation of VC, and the process of creating the OS began. This is to prevent any potential false positives caused by FLEXnet Publisher/SafeCast.

Summary below about the installation of VC1.17 and 1.18 on 3 different desktop computers, and Evil Maid messages came up in all occasions when creating a Hidden OS. 2 of the 3 computers are new build, while 1 is an 1-yr old computer.

1) A fresh installation of Windows 7 and VC1.17 on my brand new computer again, Evil Maid message appeared. Erased and formatted the hard drive, then installed Windows 7 again but this time with VC1.18, Evil Maid message came up again when creating Hidden OS..

2) A fresh installation of Windows 7 and VC1.17 on my cousin's brand new computer, Evil Maid message appeared. Erased and formatted the hard drive, then installed Windows 7 again but this time with VC1.18, Evil Maid message came up again when creating Hidden OS.

Again for details of how I created the hidden OS and when the Evil message came up, please see post1 in this old thread.

I use 1.17, and almost exclusively perform veracrypt operations using batch files.

I never use the /a switch, so am unfamiliar with its effect in practice. However, I believe it doesn't negate the necessity to specify which volume(s) you are trying to mount. You haven't specified one.

using the /a switch causes it to auto mount the available drive. there are 2 drives that are swapped out regularly so i cant really designate 1 particular drive. when using the batch file it does mount the drive and its completely accessible just that the batch file stalls out until i close the veracrypt window then it continues to run.

Created Unassigned: Container decrypted automatical by veracrypt after systemstart [541]

Hi, I have a veracrypt container, mounted by systemstart. I have to enter my password - all things done well.

But if I'm logoff with don't dismount my container manually, on the next Systemstart veracrypt automatically mount the container without any password dialog!

I think, this is a highly risk, so if my laptop is lost, anyone who can login to windows, has also full acces to my veracrypt container data!

Is this by design or do I slipped a setting option?

Best regards

I assume you want a password dialogue to appear. What happens if you add /q to your veracrypt /a command?

Comments: No, I dont disable Fast Startup (and I will not do so, because it boots very fast). TrueCrypt, which I used before VeraCrypt on the same machine, has not such a behavior. If I understand you right, VeraCrypt is not save until I disable the Windows fast startup feature?

New Post: Windows 7 Reinstall / System Favourite Volume broken

Hi,
i had to reinstall my Win7 System. I had one System Favourite volume configured.
After Win7 reinstall i installed latest veracrypt version, encrypted my system volume again with same password and settings as before. But i cant mount the volume anymore. Manually mounting also fails with error 7762. (Version 1.19-beta2)
The volume is a 6tb raid5 array (gpt/nfts). If i remember correctly i had to encrypt the hole disk and to mount (before converted to system favourite volume) i had to use partition0.
When i try to use mount without preboot authentication, veracrypt tells me to specify a partition?
So why can't this be used with partition0?
How add a volume manually to VeraCrypt System Favorite Volumes.xml?
